Go Green For Halloween

This Halloween, as we all prepare for the big night of trick-or-treating, GreenHalloween.org gives us food for thought.

As you head to the store to stock up on candy and non-biodegradable treats for the kids, think about the alternative. What if we gave our kids healthy treats that tasted good too? What if those treats were not only healthy, but good for the planet, using fair-trade cocoa and organic ingredients and packaged in eco-friendly packaging? Perhaps your neighborhood could join together to have a party instead of doing the usual trick-or-treating, offering plenty of healthy food choices alongside some yummy treats. Some kids, especially the older ones, may balk at the idea of going green or making changes to a beloved celebration, but give kids a chance. They may jump on the bandwagon quicker than you can say "boo" if the concept is framed in the right way. Kids are learning more and more about the environment in school, and ways that we can make it a better place for them one day. If we empower our kids, they just might end up inspiring us! Now that would surely be a treat.
