I have to admit, I am not a huge fan of the big purple dinosaur. My kids, however, think he's the bee's knees! So when I had the chance to review Barney Animal ABC's, I groaned, but knew they'd be in for a treat.Barney Animal ABC's is a cute way to teach kids the alphabet. When Baby Bop comes outside to see Barney and his friends, they decide to play an alphabet game by naming one animal for each letter of the alphabet. Their adventures ensue. Some of the animals they come up with are pretty typical, but others go so far as to show footage of real animals in their own habitat. My son loved watching the kangaroos, and had fun dancing to the upbeat music. The hip-hop rendition of "Little Bo Peep" we could have done without, but all in all, I think it's a nice little DVD.
One thing I really appreciate about Barney videos is their multi-cultural grouping of kids. They almost always have a cultural melting-pot of kids and I love this! Another thing I think is great about Barney is the lessons in sharing and teamwork. I can't tell you how many times we've sung the "Barney clean up" song around our house, and it's helped my daughter get into the clean up action.
The video is cute in it's own Barney way, so kids who like Barney are sure to enjoy it. It helps to teach kids the alphabet, and has some subtle lessons about getting along, sharing and helping out, that I am thankful for. Barney Animal ABC's would be a good DVD to add to your collection.
