Billboards Reincarnated

What comes around, goes around. That's true of more than a few things these days. Like billboards, for example. One day they're plastered all over the freeway, advertising the latest hit movie. The next day they show up as your favorite new handbag, avoiding our landfills and putting to use that heavyweight vinyl that has been printed with some fabulous images. Imagine that.

The folks at Ecoist and Vy and Elle did just that. Both have brought us wonderful handbag designs just from billboards. This Medium Handbag from Ecoist (above) features movie billboards ($48), and sports some of the season's hottest colors. What a chic way to make a statement about showing that you care for the earth!

This durable and hard-working Diva Tote from Vy and Elle ($42) makes it's own statement, although not necessarily from the movies. A deep compartment makes this perfect for doubling as a diaper bag, or allows you to skip a shopping bag for small purchases.

It's great to see such huge items as billboards come back to have a second life. This offers us the possibility to have truly unique accessories and help save our planet at the same time.
