With Christmas drawing near most of us have been so busy running around and taking care of last minute details that we haven't had a chance to think about what we're going to wear on the big day. Whether you'll be hosting a house full of friends and relatives, or spending a nice, quiet holiday with those closest to you, elegant comfort is a great way to adorn yourself for the big day. What is elegant comfort? Easy - it's where your favorite comfy items such as jeans and a tee shirt combine to create an outfit that is greater than the sum of its parts. The secret ingredient? A fabulous sweater. But wait just a minute. Before you begin thinking about pulling out your "holiday sweater" I'd like to ask you to think again. Donning a big, boxy, shapeless sweater that boasts a light-up Santa or a huge Christmas wreath is just not going to be flattering. But don't despair - a chic outfit isn't out of reach. In fact, it's easier than you think. Here's how to get started:
1/ Start with a great pair of jeans, or even a pair of flattering knit pants. After all, you are going to be lounging around, opening presents and enjoying the comfort of your own home (or a relative's). But remember, comfort does not trump fit. Fit (and flattery) is key.
2/ Start with a lightweight layer of a knit tank or tee that fits close to the body. You don't need any extra bulk, especially around the middle.
3/ Top it off with a fabulous sweater - think understated as in one color, with some simple details like ruffles, ties or a collar.
4/ Add a few simple pieces of jewelry - earrings or a necklace, a bracelet, a pretty ring.
5/ Slip on a pair of comfy flats. You may find yourself sitting on the floor amid piles of presents so heels may not be appropriate.
6/ Toss a pretty scarf around your neck that can double as a wrap if you get chilly. This is a great way to add a shot of color and enhance your eyes or hair.
You're ready! Elegant comfort is easy peasy and can help take your look to the next level without sacrificing ease.
What is your favorite outfit for Christmas morning?

Some lovely suggestions in great festive colors! Comfort is key on Christmas Day, for certain. Chico's makes great comfortable slinky pants made from acetate spandex. All December and January I wear velvet and velour to keep elegant and warm.
